Spring Cleaning

After my shopping adventure yesterday with my mom and sister, my first thought when I got home was "where in the heck am I going to put all this stuff."

Source of the problem (my youngest sister) :)

When I moved out of my parents house, I took most of my clothes, and left what I didn't wear. Our closet is not as big as I would like but, big it's plenty big for two people (90% of the closet is my stuff...big shock).

Kali had to make an appearance in the picture for approval

My husbands side...so sad

Another one of my goals while my husband is deployed is to go through all of my clothes, and take out what I haven't worn in the past year (which sadly is a lot). I wear mostly the same thing to work, so I don't really rotate my clothes, but now that I have plenty of new options I'm going to make it a priority to wear new things. With as many clothes as I have and as much as clothes cost, I don't like giving away half my wardrobe. And if you're like me, most everything you own has some significance to it...like you wore a certain shirt the night you were proposed to or something (I can't tell you what I wore, so that's a bad example, but you get the picture). My sister told me that once you wear something you turn the hanger the other way and then you can periodically see what clothes you've worn and what you haven't. I'm thinking of trying this since I have no clue what I have and haven't worn.

My husband kindly reminded me today that I already had enough clothes, and am running out of room to put everything. I then had a brilliant idea to take all his stuff out of the closet and moving it to another one so I could keep all my clothes and have more room. He didn't like that idea, but it was a good attempt to gain a little more space. Looks like I have my work cut out for me :)

How do you keep track and know when it's time to toss something you haven't worn in a while? I hope everyone had a great weekend!! :)

  1. I'm actually going to try and consign a bunch of clothes I'm getting rid of. At least I might have the chance of making some money back!

  2. Do you have a Plato's Closet around? They pay you for clothes that are in good condition. It's not much but it's better than just giving them away sometimes.

I actually have probably half the amount of clothes that my man has. He hoards T-shirts lol.

    1. We have one, but they are super picky and usually only accept one or two things from a laundry basket of clothes. My husband went through all his clothes before he left because he knew I was going to go through everything and he didn't want any of his beloved shirts getting tossed. He hoards t-shirts like its cool too! It must be a guy thing :)

  3. Oh my! I am having this same issue. Every time I go to Target I want to buy all the clothes under the sun, but know I don't wear half the stuff I have now. Our closet is so tiny though! Only my dresses fit in it {like 50 dresses but still!} I just got rid of the big pile of clothes on the floor and am trying to get it to only fit on my side of the dresser..Spring cleaning is tough work! I really need to try to hanger idea though!

  5. OMG your closet is AMAZING! I always try and stick to the rule, if I haven't worn it in a year, it goes! lol. It's so hard at times to part with it, but out with the old and in with the new, right?? Love that you moved the hubby's stuff out that is totally something i would do!!! lol

    1. It's so hard for me to toss what I don't wear...even though I know I'm not going to wear it again. I think it's just a comfort thing to have all your stuff around! haha
